Basics: Getting Started
Even if you have not used SU before, by the ned of the day you will know how to approach creating a 3D model, setting up layers and groups.
You will create a simple garden in 3D and add textures, shadows and objects brought in from online libraries. There are many ways to approach using 3D cad: you will learn how to create shapes and forms from scratch as well as how to import a sketch/ drawing and trace over it.
This course compliments the Getting Started day. You do not need to have been on the previous course, but you should understand how to create basic geometry, use layers and groups. The first few hours of the course will be a refresher of good modelling practices.
You will be taught how to create more complex shapes and set up your model so that you can create section views and points of view that you can use in other documents/ slideshows etc. Part of the day will be dedicated to solving your problems and addressing things you would like modelled in SU.
Terrain and Using plants
The first 1/2 of the day will cover ways to use plants in SketchUp
3D, 2D, 2.5D, plant symbols and plans.
Where to get good quality plant files
plugins that help with creating planting
What you should and should not do.
Using trees and background effects
How to set up planting plans using Sketchup and Layout (Layout requires the use of SU pro)
Terrain will cover a range of methods to create organic surfaces in SU. This might be from spot heights, contours or on site visual queues.
Terrain for visual effect and ways to manipulate terrain.
the essential plugins that will help
How to calculate the cut/ fill required
Applying texture to terrain, adding details such as roads, paths, buildings, steps into terrain
Making your images compelling – Contact the office to register interest
Whilst a day is just not long enough to cover this subject, you will be shown the essentials of taking your SU models to the next level. The day will include
Things to do in SketchUp to improve your presentations
Importing and using textures and photographs
Improved and realistic shadows,
Styles and lines in SketchUp
Where to get the best library models and plants
Composing images, adding trees, sky and entourage (objects)
Plugins and additional programs that will change your images
Essential tools and techniques in photo editing software (Photoshop)
The things you should do to every image
Layering images output from SketchUp to create different styles and effects
manipulating photographs, removing unwanted items for use in SketchUp
Whilst Photoshop will be used there are other Photo-editing software available. (eg Gimp: Mac and PC, Affinity: Mac). A trial version of Photoshop is available and lasts for 30days.
Rendering is a huge subject. There are simple ways to approach rendering from within Sketchup and these will be covered as well as highlighting the types of software available.
- Convert sketches into 3D models
- Planting plans/ libraries
- Presentation visuals
- Construction drawings
- Planning applications
- Show garden illustrations and construction
- Modelling buildings from survey information and photographs
